Postseason inventory is the most volatile, time-sensitive ticket market in sports. A series-clinching game changes the buyer pool overnight. A 3-1 lead in a Conference Final shifts every remaining home game’s price within hours. A Game 7 carries a multiple of a Game 1 ticket because it might not happen.
If you’re a season ticket holder of a team in the postseason — or a buyer holding extras for a specific round — this is the highest-leverage 5-day window of your entire season. Here’s what we do, across every league, with the structural facts that drive each one.
Live state of the 2026 postseason (as of June 10)

Why playoff inventory reprices in 48 hours after a clincher
When a series ends, four things change at once for the surviving team’s next-round home games:
1. The matchup is now a known commodity. Pre-clincher, future-round home tickets are priced against a hypothetical opponent. Post-clincher, the buyer pool can finally evaluate the actual matchup — fan travel, rivalry intensity, broadcast slot, star matchups.
2. Travel buyers enter the market. A meaningful share of postseason demand comes from out-of-town fans of the visiting team. They can’t book flights and hotels until the matchup is set. The 24-72 hour window after a clincher is when those buyers concentrate their shopping.
3. STHs of the advancing team suddenly hold extra inventory. Most playoff STH packages auto-roll round-by-round. STHs who weren’t planning to attend the next round are now sitting on home games they didn’t expect to have.
4. Buyer attention is concentrated. ESPN, regional sports media, and team broadcasts spend the next 48 hours analyzing the new matchup. That’s the peak buyer-attention window of the entire round.
The 48 hours after a clincher is when first prices set the anchor for the entire round. Listings that go up early get visibility before second-wave STH inventory hits. Listings that go up late compete with the flood.
The Game 7 dynamic (every league)
Game 7s are unusual ticket-pricing situations for a single reason: they might not happen. That uncertainty creates a different demand curve from any other ticket. Three things converge on a Game 7:
- The game might not happen (if the series ends in 4-6). Buyers commit to the seat with full awareness it could be refunded.
- If it happens, it’s the only Game 7 of that round in that series. No matchup substitute is possible.
- The clincher game (whatever its number) carries similar dynamics. Once a series gets to a 3-1 or 3-2 lead, the trailing team’s home arena for the clincher game suddenly has a Game-7-style premium, even if it’s officially Game 5 or 6.
Pricing implication: single-game value is not flat across the four home games of a round. Pricing them the same is leaving money on the table on the late games. We list each home game with its own pricing strategy.

| MLB | Wild Card series, Division Series, Championship Series, World Series — single games, series strips, premium and suite inventory |
| NFL | Wild Card, Divisional, Conference Championships, Super Bowl — single games (each NFL playoff game is single-elimination), club, premium, suites |

How playoff consignment works
Six steps, same across every league we work:
- Submit at /sell/ with what you have — single games, full-series strips, sections, quantity. The form is the consignment agreement.
- We respond within one business day by email with a strategy conversation, a current price range, and transfer instructions.
- You transfer the tickets to us through the standard ticket transfer process.
- We list across every channel where playoff buyers shop — major resale marketplaces, wholesale broker channels, our private buyer list.
- We price each game individually, never flat across a strip. Round-by-round, with sharp repricing for late-series games as elimination scenarios firm up.
- You get paid every Friday — PayPal or wire — for whatever sold the previous week.
Two things specific to postseason consignment that matter more than for any other category:
- Speed. Playoff series move fast. We list within 24 hours of submission. The 48-hour window after a clincher is peak — we work to that timeline, not a relaxed one.
- Game-by-game pricing. Game 7 prices at multiples of Game 1. Bundling them at one price is the most common way holders underprice playoff inventory.

The 5-day playbook for STHs of advancing teams
Wrestling with the timing itself? Start with sell now or wait? — the decision framework.
If your team just clinched and you’re holding next-round home inventory you don’t plan to use:
Day of clincher (or day after)
Triage. How many home games, in what sections, which ones are you actually attending? Be honest. Seats you’re “thinking about going to” end up sold at game-week prices, which are lower than today’s prices on a hot matchup.
Days 1-2
List the seats you’re not attending. The 48-hour window is when buyer attention peaks. List early to anchor.
Days 3-5
Watch listings against the broader market. If your seats are clearing, leave them. If sitting, reprice once decisively (10-15%) or bundle adjacent seats. Halfway adjustments get ignored at this stage.
Game 7 (if applicable)
Highest single-game ticket of the round. Don’t list a Game 7 the same way as Game 1.
What playoff resale doesn’t follow (busted assumptions)
Three patterns from regular-season ticket resale that don’t apply to playoffs:
“Prices drop closer to game day” — true for non-sold-out regular-season games, false for playoff games. Playoff inventory either holds or climbs as game approaches; the late-game discount pattern doesn’t exist for postseason.
“Late-week games are softer” — false for playoffs. Series rhythm matters more than weeknight vs weekend. Game 5+ in a tight series prices higher than Game 1 of the same series regardless of day.
“Lower-tier seats are easier to clear” — partly true but inverted on Game 7s. Premium seating on a Game 7 has the deepest buyer pool because that’s the bucket-list ticket; cheaper seats can struggle on weeknight elimination games against a team people aren’t traveling to see.

Frequently asked questions
When should I list my playoff tickets?
Day of clincher or the day after — for the next round. The 48 hours after a series ends is the peak buyer-attention window. Listings that go up early anchor before second-wave inventory hits. For your current round’s later games (Game 5+), reprice as the series tightens.
Why do playoff tickets cost more than regular-season tickets?
Three reasons. Stakes — winners advance. Scarcity — fewer surviving teams means scarcer playoff inventory. Concentrated buyer attention — media coverage, broadcast windows, and travel planning all narrow to the remaining series. Conference Finals and Final inventory carries the highest single-game premium of any sports ticket short of the championship round.
Do playoff ticket prices drop closer to game day?
Generally no. For early-series home games (Game 1, Game 2), prices hold or climb as the series approaches because demand peaks right after the matchup is set. For late-series games (Game 5+), prices spike sharply as elimination scenarios firm up. The “late-game discount” pattern that exists for regular-season tickets does not apply to playoff inventory.
What’s a Game 7 ticket worth?
Multiples of a Game 1 ticket. Exact multiples depend on how the series has played out — a Game 7 between two evenly-matched marquee teams clears at the highest premium of any ticket in the round. Don’t list a Game 7 with the same pricing logic as Game 1; it’s a different ticket.
Can I sell tickets if my team is still in Round 1 / earlier round?
Yes, but pre-clinch listings price against a hypothetical matchup — smaller buyer pool, conservative prices. Wait for the clincher, then list within 48 hours. Exception: if your team is heavily favored and the matchup pool has narrowed to two possibilities, marquee-team home games can be listed early because demand is matchup-agnostic.
What about NFL playoffs vs NBA/NHL/MLB playoffs?
NFL playoffs are single-elimination by round (1 home game per team per round, no series). That makes each NFL playoff ticket a standalone single-game market — no bundle dynamics, no series-strip considerations. The 48-hour post-clincher window still applies, but the pricing model is simpler: one game, one matchup, one buyer pool.
Will I have to sign a separate contract?
For standard inventory, no. The form is the consignment agreement. For suite-level or large corporate deals, we may discuss additional documentation directly.
When do I get paid?
Every Friday. Whatever sold during the previous week settles via PayPal or wire on the next Friday after the sale clears.
What if my team gets eliminated and I’m holding tickets for a round that won’t happen?
If the round you’re holding doesn’t materialize (e.g., your team gets swept out of Round 1 and you held Round 2 tickets), most postseason tickets are conditional — the ticketing system refunds them automatically once the round is canceled for that team. We don’t list tickets that won’t be valid; if a series ends before your inventory’s round happens, the resale process resolves accordingly.
Can SellTicketsFast handle suite inventory at playoffs?
Yes. Postseason suite inventory has its own market dynamics — typically corporate buyers, multi-game packages, hospitality components. We work suite-level deals directly; for those, we’ll discuss any additional documentation.
