Informational · Season ticket resale rules

Yes, you can resell season tickets. Game by game, through your own account, in every major league.

What the leagues and teams actually allow, the handful of restrictions that still exist, how it works for the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB and college, and where the games you resell can go.

Short answer: every NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB team, and nearly every major college program, lets season ticket holders resell individual games. Your tickets are digital, they live in the team’s official app, and each game can be transferred or listed on its own. You keep the seats, the renewal rights and the games you do not sell. The restrictions that remain are narrow: some teams limit where you can list, a few cap resale prices in certain circumstances, playoff and premium inventory sometimes carries its own terms, and reselling at a scale that looks like a business can get an account flagged. None of that stops a fan from selling the dates they cannot use.

What “reselling season tickets” means in practice

A season ticket is not one thing; it is a bundle of individual game tickets delivered to your account. Reselling it almost never means selling the bundle. It means selling the specific dates you will not attend, one at a time, while the rest stay in your account. That is possible because every major team now uses mobile ticketing, where each game is a separate transferable ticket. You pick the date, choose a path (list it yourself or hand it to a consignment service), and the ticket moves to the buyer only when it sells.

There are three ways to do that, and all three are legitimate: list it on your team’s own exchange inside your account, list it on a resale marketplace, or consign it to a service that prices and lists it for you. The best place to sell season tickets depends on how many games you are moving.

League by league

NFLTeam account manager, usually Ticketmaster; the team appYes, including preseason and, once issued, playoff gamesSome teams enforce a minimum resale price on their own exchange. Season ticket terms typically prohibit using the seats primarily as a resale business; occasional resale is expected.
NBATeam account manager (Ticketmaster, SeatGeek or AXS depending on the team); the team appYes, all 41 home games plus playoff rounds once tickets are releasedPlayoff tickets are issued round by round and can be resold the same way. A few arenas use AXS, where resale runs through the AXS marketplace in the same app.
NHLTeam account manager; the team appYesSame structure as the NBA. Weeknight regular-season games are the dates holders most often resell.
MLBMLB Ballpark app; resale through the team’s official marketplace partnerYes, all 81 home gamesWith 81 dates, MLB season ticket holders resell more games than any other league. Transfer through Ballpark is instant; some teams restrict forwarding on specific promotional dates.
College football and basketballSchool ticket office account; often Ticketmaster or PaciolanUsually yes, through the school’s official exchange or by transferDonor-tied seats carry the most rules: some programs prohibit above-face resale, some require the exchange, and seat-priority programs can penalize resale at volume. Read the ticket office’s resale policy before listing.

The restrictions that still exist

Price floors on the team exchange

Some teams set a minimum listing price on their own exchange, which keeps holders from undercutting the box office. The floor applies only to that exchange; marketplaces and consignment listings are priced to the market.

Transfer locks on specific events

Occasionally a team or promoter disables transfer for a game or a promotion. The ticket shows as non-transferable in the app. These are rare for regular-season games and more common for giveaways and special events.

Playoff and premium terms

Playoff strips, suites and club memberships sometimes come with their own resale language, including limits on reselling the whole strip. Individual playoff games are generally resellable once issued.

“Don’t run a business out of your account”

Most season ticket agreements reserve the team’s right to revoke an account that is used primarily for resale. In practice this targets accounts that list every game, every season, at scale. A fan selling the dates they cannot attend, even most of a season in a busy year, is what the exchange and the transfer feature exist for.

State resale laws

Several states have ticket-resale statutes, mostly about disclosure, refunds and speculative listings, and a few now cap resale markups. Resale through a team exchange, a major marketplace or a consignment service is permitted across the US; most of the added state rules are disclosure or refund requirements, which those channels already handle.

How the resale actually moves

  1. Open the game in your team’s app and confirm it shows as transferable.
  2. Choose a path. Sell on the exchange or a marketplace (you set the price, you are paid after the game, the fee is in the 10% to 15% range), or consign it (we price it, list it on every channel, and pay you every Friday; our commission is 20%, charged only on a sale).
  3. Transfer. For a marketplace sale, the ticket moves to the buyer when they pay. For consignment, you transfer the dates to our verified account up front and we deliver to each buyer as games sell.
  4. Keep the rest. Nothing you did not sell is affected. If plans change, an unsold consigned game comes back to your account.

Frequently asked questions

Can you resell season tickets?

Yes. Every NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB team and nearly every major college program lets season ticket holders resell individual games through the team exchange, a resale marketplace or a consignment service. You keep the seats, the renewal and the games you do not sell.

Can I resell MLB season tickets?

Yes. MLB tickets live in the MLB Ballpark app and each of the 81 home games can be transferred or listed separately through the team’s official resale partner, a marketplace, or a consignment service. Some teams restrict forwarding on specific promotional dates; the app shows which.

Will I lose my season tickets if I resell games?

Reselling the games you cannot attend does not affect your account. Teams reserve the right to revoke accounts used primarily as a resale business, which is aimed at accounts that list every game at scale, not fans selling unused dates.

Can I resell season tickets above face value?

On marketplaces and through consignment, yes; prices are set by the market and high-demand games routinely sell above face. Some team exchanges set a minimum price, and some college programs restrict above-face resale on donor seats, so check the exchange’s rules for that specific case.

Can I resell playoff tickets from my season ticket package?

Generally yes, once the playoff tickets are issued to your account, game by game. Whole-strip resale and some premium playoff inventory may carry specific terms from the team.

Do I have to use the team’s exchange to resell?

No. The exchange is one option. You can transfer tickets to a marketplace buyer or to a consignment service’s verified account through the same app. A few college programs require their own exchange for donor seats; that is the main exception.

Have games you know you will miss?

Send us the dates. We price each one to the market, list it on every channel, handle the transfer and pay you every Friday. First regular-season sale for season ticket holders is commission-free.
